Setting up and using TheSchoolApp

Installation and Set up

We use TheSchoolApp as our primary means to keep you informed.  It has been developed to be an all-in-one solution; as well as giving you quick access to all the features across our website such as the calendar, news and content, it is also the easiest way for us to notify you of important things.

Installation

TheSchoolApp is available on Apple's App Store and the Google Play Store for Android devices.  Search for TheSchoolApp.  Please note that the list will contain other apps of similar context, so please take note that the correct app has a blue logo and has been developed by Juniper Education.  Follow the appropriate procedure for your phone or tablet to install the app.  This guide is written using an iPhone however the principles and usage across all devices are exactly the same.

Set up

When you install TheSchoolApp and run it for the first time, it will ask for a few details in order to get registered.

Regardless of whether your child joins us as part of the normal September intake into Reception or at any other time, the details will be included as part of your welcome pack.

Simply type these details into TheSchoolApp and you will be good to go.

Using TheSchoolApp

The app is focused and simple to use, allowing you to get things done in minimal time.

Home Screen

Once you are set up, you'll open up on the Home screen.  The home screen is a summary of the calendar, news articles posted to the website and at the bottom, a list of your most visited links in our website.

Clicking into a date in the calendar will show the events on that day.

Clicking into a news article will display the contents.

Whilst our website is pretty easy to navigate for parents (as everything you could need is in the School Hub,) this is still quite a neat and handy feature.  If you browse certain pages frequently, they will be here for quick access.

Calendar

The Calendar is a view of the exact same calendar on our website and as such, it is updated in real-time.

It behaves in much the same way, clicking into a day will list that day's events, and clicking into an event will display any supporting information.

At the top left you will notice a search function, meaning that if you are in a situation where you know that your child is going to an event or taking part in something but you can't quite remember what date and time, you can quickly search it out.

A nifty feature beside each event is the grey bell icon.  If you click it, it will set a reminder for that event and the app will ping you a notification when it is approaching.

School

The School page offers a quick way to call and email us - simply click on the appropriate icons.

Further, you can browse all the contents of our website by clicking into the relevant sections and then into the appropriate pages.

Messages

The messages page is a list of every notification we have sent to you.  Unread messages appear in bold.

We are working with the app developer to bring in a search function.

Clicking into a message displays the contents.  You can optionally put the message in the bin if you have no need to keep it, or swap it back to 'unread' so that it appears bold again.

More

The More page includes some extra options which may be of use to you.  For example, you can change your pin or even leverage translation, should English not be the primary language in your household.
