HOME SCHOOL LEARNING

Good morning Year 1

We've done it!  For all you still working at home, this is the last week's work for the year.  I would strongly suggest that once this is finished, you have a break, start your Summer holiday's early, and relax.  You've all been amazing!  It has been a delight to receive your work from home each week, to see just how many people are accessing Youtube (we've even had hits from other schools) and how many of you have been making use of the Doodlemaths and Doodle English home learning resources.  Mrs. Thompson is going to be amazed when she comes to start teaching tables next year, with so many of you having already begun to learn these courtesy of Doodle Tables!

It's also great to see how well the home reading is going.  Virtually everyone is now using the eReading records, and these will follow you up into  Year 2, with only a slight modification so that we can track Book bands more easily.

For those of you in school, we've got lots of exciting things to do this week and next in the Great Outdoors! We're going to keep going with English right up until we break up for Summer but this will be last week of formal Maths lessons.  And, weather permitting, in the final week we're going to have a go at Mr. Harrison's Covid-safe Sportsday activities.

Can I just finish by thank you, your parents and anyone else who has helped you through a Summer term like no other?

Thank you everyone! Can't wait to see you all back in September.

Mr Richards and Mrs Lord, 5th of July 2020.

This leaves one phonics lesson (Mrs Lord’s group), a maths lesson (usually game or Doodlemaths based) and DT and Music available for completion at home.  However, please do not feel any pressure to do so, since our Friday’s lessons primarily serve the role of reinforcement for the learning that has happened during the week.

Our Reading Journey.

Reading remains the single most important thing we do in Year 1, and to facilitate this, we have managed to secure access to two new platforms to access electronic reading books.

The simplest to access is Oxford Owl.  All you need to do is click on the Oxford Owl link here, and then click on the My class login on the top right of the screen.  In the top box type:  class1sv. In the bottom box type: class1.  To search for books, the best way is to choose search by levels and then choose Book Band.  Choose books from the Book Band that your child was working on before the holidays.

I have also recorded a short youtube tutorial to help you further.  Click here

In addition, we have also gained access to additional Collins Big Cat books, which are phonics based.  If you wish to access these, then please email Year1@st-veronicas.lancs.sch.uk so you can be sent an activation link from Collins.

Finally, we are also continuing with using an eReading Record.  The links were sent out in the same message as the music log on.  This is designed to allow safe communication on a daily basis between school and home.  A google link will have been sent to you via the school app, which will allow you fill in a reading record online which then can be accessed at school.  This will allow us to update our reading records in school and assess when your child is ready to move onto the next Book Band. Each link is only accessibly by yourself, myself and Mrs Lord.

Additionally, for those of you in school, every Monday five reading books will be sent home.  These are for you to work through with your child.  We will not hear these books but will instead listen to children reading from etexts on iPads.
